FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is the assessment and treatment of cognitive, emotional, or behavioral disturbances through a therapeutic relationship, based on both verbal and non-verbal communication. Psychotherapy helps individuals explore and understand the challenges they face, allowing for the development of healthier thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. My approach to psychotherapy is supportive, solution-focused, and tailored to each client’s unique needs. I provide a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space where you can work through issues and achieve personal growth. Together, we will determine the changes you want to make or address the patterns you wish to overcome.

What are Assessments?

Psychological Assessments help evaluate an individual’s psychological well-being and functioning. These assessments consider your personal history, physical health, past trauma, and current concerns. The process usually includes a clinical interview and may involve diagnostic tools to better understand how you function emotionally and mentally. Assessments provide insights into potential diagnoses and guide recommendations for treatment if necessary.

Are Fees Covered by Insurance?

While my services are not covered by OHIP, many extended healthcare plans include coverage for psychological services. Additionally, if you have been involved in an accident, your auto insurance may cover counseling and assessment costs. For specific details about coverage, please contact your insurance provider, or feel free to reach out to me for guidance on how to navigate this process.

What Can I Expect in Therapy?

Therapy is a collaborative process where we work together to address the issues you are facing. Sessions are 50 min in length and typically involve exploring your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while identifying patterns that may be contributing to your challenges. We will also develop strategies for change, focusing on improving your well-being and helping you reach your goals. Each session is personalized to your needs and together we will set the pace and direction of our work together.

How Long Does Therapy Take?

The length of therapy depends on your individual needs and goals. Some clients find that a few sessions are enough to address their concerns, while others benefit from a longer-term approach. During our initial sessions, we will discuss your specific goals and create a personalized plan tailored to your needs. As we progress, we will continuously re-evaluate your goals to ensure the treatment plan remains aligned with your progress, keeping you on track toward achieving the outcomes you desire.

Do You Offer Virtual Sessions?

Yes, I only offer virtual sessions. Virtual sessions provide a convenient and secure option for those who may prefer to access therapy from the comfort of their own home or have scheduling constraints. Virtual sessions are typically conducted over a secure video platform. I also do phone sessions if that is your preference.

What Should I Bring to My First Session?

For your first session, it can be helpful to come prepared with any relevant medical history, a list of current medications (if applicable), and an open mind about the goals you’d like to achieve through therapy. We will discuss what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to accomplish during our time together.

What if I have to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
